11-18-07 >><< Purchase Options, New Pics, Blip-Trip in February

Some new thingamagigs:

Purchase options for both BlipVert discs have been listed at the Discography page.  Go and buy a disc and make a dude happy!  Or, come out to a show and get one substantially cheaper....for all the other discs that I've contributed to, drop an email to blipvertmusic@gmail.com and I'll direct you to the proper person to help you out.

New pics from the soon to be completed Smart Bomb tour are up at the See page.  Some great BlipVert shots of the Santa Cruz gig.  Lotsa hair flyin' about!

Another 'Blip-Trip' (another phrase for a short and devastating BlipVert tour) occurring in February 2008.  I'll be hittin' Baltimore, Philly, and New York of course with pending appearances on WKCR's Live Constructions again and a Rhode Island gig.  If anyone is interested and wants to help out in any way, first check out some tunes at www.myspace.com/blipvert1 then drop an email to projekct@yahoo.com        Thanks!

10-12-07 >><< Big Bad Moon

I mean, that's what happens in the fall right?

Ugh, well lets see, last update was, um, July?  The work of the avant-garde extremist is never done I suppose......sometimes I wonder if it ever began....

So the first thing to mention I guess is that beginning in 2008 I will retire from quasi blabbering (otherwise known as blogging) on my own website.  I guess in my own defense of not updating for months is that I actually have better things to do with my time than yammer online - to anyone who will listen - about my car or feet or my views on politics.  So beginning January '08, the News page will be devoted to strict gig/tour listings.  I will happen to blabber just a bit when there's a really cool CD release or event of some kind that's worth blabbering about.

Secondly a lotta stuff all over the western seaboard.  One of the best gigs of my life in early August, a 'glitch-hop dance party' that went off smashingly down in Los Angeles at the quite lovable il corral, which I must say puts Oakland's 21 Grand to utter shame.  A live BlipVert set to a packed room of people.......dancing!  I mean, when one dances to BlipVert one might look like a chicken on fire, and a room of fiery chickens was a glorious site indeed.

After a liquor filled (and well needed I might add) vacation in New York, and some decent sporadic Kids and Hearts gigs 'round the Bay, I ventured up North for a BlipVert/Cartridge tour with Northwest reed master John Savage.  All in all, a hellish little tour, challenging to say the least.  But, at least the stage is set for the Cartridge CD release on Diatic Records in January.  We're calling the album 'Field Recordings,' and I'm looking forward to finally having the thing available to the general public.

And finally October, a month of rest.  November starts back up again with a massive month of events.  All gigs for November and beyond are listed below with a brief description:

BlipVert @ il Corral
Saturday November 3rd, 9:00 PM
662 North Heliotrope Dr.
Los Angeles, CA
A great night of local acts at the premiere sub-avant-garde performance space in LA.

BlipVert @ Godwaffle Noise Fest
Saturday November 10, 12:00 PM
110 Capp St.
San Francisco, CA
One of the most unique musical events currently happening in SF, an afternoon brunch accompanied by some of the most brutal noise music SF has to offer.  Oh, come on, I just had to do it.

BlipVert @ 111 Minna - The first SF Laptop Battle!
Saturday November 10, 8:00 PM
San Francisco, CA
Fresh off the Godwaffle gig, BlipVert'll be slugging it out head to head with other Bay Area laptoppers.  I don't care about winning at all, but I do care about performing in front of Richard Devine, who is one of the judges.

The Bay Area Smart Bomb Tour, featuring:

Mirthkon
BlipVert
R&B Free Jazz Gospel Supreme 80

These three giants of the Bay Area will be invading for a brief 3 concert tour at the following:

The Attic
Thursday November 15, 7:00 PM
931 Pacific Ave.
Santa Cruz, CA

Starry Plough
Friday November 16, 9:30 PM
3101 Shattuck Ave.
Berkeley, CA

Hemlock Tavern
Tuesday November 20, 9:00 PM
1131 Polk St.
San Francisco, CA

Cartridge Diatic Records CD release - 'Field Recordings'
Design Counsel Group
Saturday, January 19, 8:00 PM
1001 SE Water #360
Portland, OR
As mentioned, Cartridge's first major CD release in Portland.

BlipVert @ SPLICE
Location TBA
Sunday, February 24, 9:00 PM
New York, NY
Possibly the last gig of a 'currently in the developing stages' BlipVert east coast tour.

Some of these concert times and dates might be subject to change, so check out the BlipVert myspace page for all updated concert info.

Other pertinent news will be a compilation CD release of some of the - in my opinion - more forward thinking electronic artists in the greater Bay Area.  This release will focus on performing members of two monthly electronic events, Circuitry at SF Underground in San Francisco and Synthetic at the Press Club in Sacramento.  Entitled 'Circuitry vs. Synthetic', yours truly will be featured with two tracks.

I think that's good enough for a long overdue update.  Hope to see you at an upcoming show, you krazy kats!

7-06-07 >><< Summer of all kinds of love

*Yawn*  3 AM.  BTW, I'll leave the aforementioned title up to your imagination *grin.*

Yeah!!  Been so damn busy I haven't had time to new-newsify.  Plus I've had to make major changes to the website, due mainly to the fact that, for reasons yet to be determined, some of my information was wiped clean off the face of the earth.  Somehow, even the smartest computer dorks who were all situated in the Philippines somewhere (can anyone say 'outsourcing') couldn't figure out the damn problem.  A big 'up-yours' to a certain company.....you know who you are.

So anywho, insanity gradually approaches.  The Eat Concrete vinyl comp is done and done!  You can check out the image and go to the Eat Concrete Records home page to read the press release and check out the other artists that are appearing on the other comps.  A total of three released as a set, I've even recently recognized some dudes that I've listened to before, such as Daedelus and Low Res.  I'm been truly blessed to be a part of the Eat Concrete family.  A truly massive shout out (and it has to be, cause he lives in the Netherlands) to one Teun de Reeper, who has been instrumental in organizing this whole thing.  This project would have been non-existent if it weren't for Teun's vision and drive to make it happen.   Talks are in the works for possible European jaunts and of course a possible invasion of the U.S. by the Eat Concrete team.  Here we come!

A massive month of gigs for the gig-goer also approaches.  Starting with BlipVert of course:

July 15 - Press Club
w/Two Playa Game, Square Wail
2030 P St. @ 21st, Sacramento, 9 PM, $5

July 18 - G3 Lounge as part of exp.folx
3910 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, 9:30 PM, $5

July 29 - Press Club
BlipVert w/Cartridge
9 PM, $5

After annihilating the Press Club and the G3 Lounge this month, Mr. John Savage will be cruising through the area to do a special Cartridge gig with me at the Press Club.  They just can't get enough!

In other special news, my longtime friend GENE!? Baker has just finished a massive recording of his own special brand of 'R&B Free Jazz Gospel' music.  I'm happy to fill the guitar chair for this band.  I gotta say, some very well written music, complete with horns, vibes, all kinds of keys, and a massive choir of vocals.  To this I say....EYAH!!  So far, there will be a series of 4 gigs this month, with dates, times, and locations to be announced.  For advanced notice, you may want to check www.virb.com/genevbaker as I don't know when I'll have a chance again this month to update this page.  Gene is notorious for operating under the radar, I must warn.  Or you could email me.

For the future, more SF gigs, and BlipVert'll be tackling the West and East Coasts this fall.  A West Coast tour will be occurring at the end of September with Leo Tallman handling new drum duties, and an East Coast tour will occur at the end of October.  Dates to be announced as they formulate, or you can check my myspace page as gigs are listed there regularly.

GOOD!  And now its time to sleep before church tomorrow.  Gospel Missonary Baptist is the bomb......

5-27-07 >><< A Seriously Tweaked World + New Releases

Ugh, just my luck to be blessed with a seriously skewed website design company, so I've had to delete a bunch of the pages and updates and bring you (the reader, which may be no one) a newly vamped presentation.  Who knows, next time you might see nothing but gorillas in spandex dancing on each page....

Anyway, a whole host of noise for the discriminating noise/glitch/spaz-jazz enthusiast.
First of all, my new BlipVert EP  "skr(ep)," has been released on Trixy Records (as you can tell by the cool promo art above).  Keep in mind that this is not the actual art of the CD.  You can find this fine musical 'thing' on Itunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and EMusic.  All major online digital retailers.  I've also done a limited pressing of this disc, and will most likely be selling it only at shows.  Some very nice people have also posted some thoughtful reviews, and you can check those out at my review page.  There might be a few available at CDBaby and Amazon, but you'll have to just go there and look mi amigo.....or just email me....

In other really cool news, I'll be having a new single released on Eat Concrete Records based in the Netherlands.  These guys have been amazingly cool from the get go.  Primarily an independent label that produces records for DJs and collectors throughout Europe, they decided to take a chance and release some BlipVera-brato extremism.  I feel honored and privileged to now be DJ'd throughout Europe!  Although I don't know who'll be dancing to my music without looking like a chicken on fire, I am blessed to have met and to be working with Eat Concrete.  Hopefully some concerts in the future.

BlipVert's regular series at the Press Club in Sacramento continues!  All ya gotta do is venture out to 2031 P Street in Sac-town the first Sunday of each month to fill your ears with noise....

For the future, a Cartridge release on a local Portland label, a BlipVert West Coast tour, another trip to NYC, and several compilations that will feature my music.  Whew......tired.

And now its time to sleep, or at least to rearrange the shirts in my closet for the 12th time this week.
